Law Bursary
O’Halloran Deal lawyers provide a bursary to the top ranked student in legal studies at Wagga Wagga High School, Kooringal High School and Temora High School. This is to promote high academic achievement at the secondary level and, should the student proceed to study law, offset some of the expense of tertiary study in law.
O’Halloran Deal will present “the first tranche” to the Year 12 nominated in writing by the school as ranking first in Year 12 Legal Studies stream for that year.
The successful student will be given the opportunity to discuss a career in law (whether as an administrative assistant, solicitor or barrister) with the partners at O’Halloran Deal.
If the successful student then goes on to enrol at an Australian University listed on www.australian-universities.com/schools/law) or through the legal practitioners Admission Board in the year following receipt of the bursary then O’Halloran Deal will, upon receipt of the original or certified copy of the notice of enrolment issued by the relevant University, pay to the student “the second tranche”.
The second tranche will be paid notwithstanding the enrolment may be deferred for a year (for example a “gap” year) or such other time as agreed between the recipient and O’Halloran Deal.
There shall be no restriction on how the bursary is to be spent; although students are encouraged to spend it on legal texts and other educational expenses.
The bursary may only be claimed in the year immediately after the year of winning the bursary. The student may not, for example, in the second or third year following receipt of the first tranche, enrol in law at an Australian University and apply for the second tranche.
